I interviewed Abdlenasser Samara, my dad. His job is quality assurance manager, estimating and project management with an engineering company, George Third and Son. I interviewed him in person and recorded his answers by taking notes. While asking my dad the questions I realized that most of the tips he has shared would help in not only engineering but any job you decided to choose. He had many tips and information to share with me for this project. I hope you learn something about his job by the end of my interview.
I chose to interview him because I want to work in a similar field to him. My dad tries his best in everything he does, I knew I could learn from him. 7 – Why did you choose this job and how?
- My dad told me the interesting story of how he chose and began his job, and the story was quite long, so here is my re-telling of it:
- When my dad was choosing his job, he originally wanted to become a doctor, so he went to Russia to study. Once he got there, he went to sign up for the course he needed but found out there were no spots left. Because of this, he had to choose a new job on the spot! A quick 5–minute decision is what got him where he is today! That is when he chose to become a mechanical engineer.
Throughout this interview, I learned many new things I didn’t know about my dad’s job. I learned that an engineer needs to have many skills and is always learning new ones. My dad has had to learn how to adapt to a new environment and how to overcome challenges that came his way. The advice I found most useful was to finish what you start. This piece of advice is important to know because no matter what career you end up with, you must always try your best. Even if you chose that job in 5 minutes.
