Inquiry Reflection

For my inquiry project, I created a timeline of the beginning to the end of the residential schools and then later discussed the affected indigenous people’s culture, as well as their trauma. I think my ability to present and sympathize with the victims of residential schools was my strong point in my presentation. I could have put more information into my timeline. My explanations were vague. I learned the hardships that the victims of the residential school suffered. I would always hear that they were abused and stripped away of their culture, but I never really dove in deeper and researched how it affected them afterwards. It was sad to learn that to this day that some still suffer because of the residential schools. Learning about what happened in the residential schools was very hard to read. Reading about the abuse they suffered in detail and reading stories from survivors was disturbing. I think that after high school I could spread the word to more people because I will have more time to do whatever. I will also be more respectful with any indigenous people I meet in the future because of the suffering they experienced I learned from this project. The most memorable part of this project was definitely learning the hardships that indigenous people went through. It was very interesting to learn about the different events that have occurred throughout the years. I’m glad that I got it done in time. Although I wish I put in a bit more effort in finding information for my timeline. While researching for the main project I learned about different indigenous communities and traditions, such as potlatches and sun dances. I believe that this project helps spread awareness of the events taking place in the residential schools, and why the next generation should help spread awareness so that the indigenous peoples receive proper reconciliation. I am fortunate enough to hear only the truth about what happened in residential schools from people at my school, while others may not.

As an artist I try my best to portray my vision through my photos. I make things that I believe to be beautiful and to captivate the people viewing my photos. In the future when I graduate highschool I plan to work on my craft and continue to take beautiful photos.
