Which equations did you use for each body part? How did you move them around and change their shape?

I used Relation Function for the head and eyes. I used a cubic function for the hair and shoulder. I used a quadratic function for the mouth. I used square root functions for the eyebrows. But for the nose, I forgot what I used. To move them around I try to change the signs or looking at the paper we had for various equations.

Did you have any challenges? Any aha moments?

I had a hard time doing the hair because the hair keeps going in the face like keeps blocking the face and I don’t how to move it so I keep trying to solve it until I got the equation that I need. And I also find it hard to flip or move to the other side. The “aha” moments were when I learned how to move the shape into the other side or how to make them shorter and also when I learned how to move the hair because I can’t figure that out.

Did you get help? Did you use any strategies?

I would ask my teacher for help if I had difficulties making the self-portrait. At first, it was hard because this is my first time doing a self-portrait on a graph. My strategies were when I did a shape like the head and I don’t know how to do eyes I would look at the equations of the head because it’s kind of the same and see if it would work and I would look at the paper we had for various equations we might use.

What did this assignment help you understand about functions, relations, and their graphs? Be specific and use mathematical language.

This assignment helps me to understand how functions and relations can create different kinds of shapes and how can slight changes for equations can change the shape.
