For the HCE assignment I chose the picture Birds on a Wire created by Banksy. The first time I looked at this picture I just saw a few birds sitting on a wire across from a smaller one. However, after a deeper insight into the picture I realized that the bird on the right who’s separated from the others represents racism. It shows how there’s division in the world still to this day and it shouldn’t matter what race/sex you are all people should be treated equally. You can even see the bird on the far right doesn’t even know why he’s there he’s just there because other people are and its supposedly the normal thing to be racist because other people are. This also happens in real life. People are raised to believe some aren’t equal and they believe this because that’s how they were raised. At first, I believed this picture just represented racisms however, I now believe it just represents inequality in general and how some people are treated differently for something they can’t control. I think it’s disgusting how stuff like this actually happens in real life where people are discriminated against for things they can’t control. I believe the author is trying to say/show that everybody should be treated equally no matter their race sex or appearance. I also think the author is trying to show how words can hurt people and that people should make a bigger effort to stop racism.
