Math 10- Week 5

This week we learned about measurement with the metric and imperial system and how to covert measurements throughout the units. For the metric system we learned a way to memorize the metric system with the sentence “king Henry doesn’t usually drink chocolate milk”. Depending on where your original number is, you would move the decimal either to the left or right depending on what unit it needs to be converted to.

K-        (kilo) EX: KIILOMETERS

H-        (hecto) EX: HECTOMETERS

DE-       (deca) EX: DECAMETERS

^MOVE THE DECIMAL PLACE LEFT

U-        (unit) EX: GRAMS, LITERS, METERS

MOVE THE DECIMAL PLACE TO THE RIGHT

D-       (deci) EX: DECIMTERS

C-       (centi) EX: CENTIMETERS

M-       (milli) EX: MILLIMETERS

Math 10- Week 4

This week we learned about the negative exponent law which turns negative exponents, positive by converting them into fractions.

First you would take the negative exponent and reciprocate it with the invisible 1 (denominator).

Then if we were multiplying two coefficients with fractional exponents, you would multiply the coefficient and multiply the fraction exponents straight through. If you were dividing, you would use the rules to divide fractions.
