What to do in a kitchen fire: If the fire is small, cover it with a lid then turn off the burner, throw lots of salt or baking soda over the fire, or use a fire extinguisher.
Burns/scalds
How to treat a burn: Soak the wound in cool water for five minutes or longer, and apply antibiotic ointment to the wound to protect the affected area.
Chemicals
Slips/trips/falls
How to prevent: Keep area tidy, wipe up any spills on the floor, don’t run, don’t horse play, and wear appropriate shoes while cooking.
Cuts
How to prevent: Always cut away from you’re self with proper technique and never leave knife in soaps water wear it’s not visible.
How to treat: Wash the cut to prevent infection, stop the bleeding, apply petroleum jelly, and cover the cut with a bandage.
Heavy lifting
When picking up something heavy always make sure to lift with your legs and with a partner.
How to prevent food poisoning
Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water and dry them before handling food, after handling raw food including meat, fish, and eggs. Also make sure to wash counter tops before and after preparing food.
Waste management
All left over foods that are not being used go straight in the compost bin. This keeps everything organized.
Personal Hygiene
Wash your hand before every lab you start and always sneeze and cough into your arm and away from the food, NEVER toward the food.
