Social Media is a platform for many things other than just love. From online bullying taking a stand to online trolls hounding politicians for simple slip ups, social media is a tool that used and abused alike. In this article by reporter Robson Fletcher the growing problem of anonymous but highly opinionated and influential Facebook users. One of these stock photo culprits is James Galan, or at least that is his Facebook pen name. Actively commenting on a variety of politicians pages, articles, and threads James is connected to big names in the political world. He seems to know many politicians personally although all claim to not know him. Prior to reading the article I was aware of the anonymity social media grants people like Galan, Staci Collins, and Lori Sanders although in my understanding they were usually smaller scale and only online bullies. Using stock photos for profile images these political influencers are there to ensure their mystery remains. The article has further confirmed my wariness of social media espescially for access to personal information and the fact that despite having a profile photo and being seeming credible, stock photos and creative lies are ever present.
