By Alaa El-Saad

This article was about a girl who thought of the problem that could occur if she started to wear a hijab at school. The article caught my eye because I too, can relate. When I first started wearing my scarf it wasn’t hard at all because I went to an all Muslim private school and wearing hijab was part of uniform. Outside of my closed environment of school, however, was a much different story. I started extremely early on, grade 3. To be so young and stared at by fully grown adults was something I was weary of from the start. After a while though, I got used to it. I told myself that they were just interested and that they may never have seen or known why people wore hijab. When I wore my hijab in middle school, most kids had no idea what it was. And the most important thing to me was to answer there honest questions no matter how silly, (do you shower with it on?) just like how kids asked, respectfully, about why Alaa wore it. I liked the author’s style of writing was very strong and emotion conveying. It addressed the feelings of diversity and racism in humans and culture.
