A paragraph supposedly written by a British General proposing a policy for governing Quebec.

As a British official, I realize there are various glorious ways to govern this bravely sought colony of Quebec. As an influential official in Canada I have chosen the remarkable policy of status-quo to ensure the colony is properly run. The French fought honourably, defending the land they believed their’s. Claiming the land for Britain we did indeed bring them to their demise such an atrocity as to remove our enemies entirely would be by our hands, disgraceful. I believe that we may allow them to practice their laws and traditions so long as they do not interfere nor contradict those his Majesty of Britain has laid forth. Isolation and deportation will only give our enemies greater incentive to wage yet another war upon us, plotting from afar. The fertile farmlands of Canada and Quebec shall suppress their anger and those peaceful shant retaliate. Assimilation is feasible, though has the ability to be completed at any given time, when perfect for the greatest power, Britain. Status-quo shall not make promises and when his Majesty deems suitable assimilation may arise. I believe that to confirm the rule of Britain and make our power known, we shall immigrate our own into Quebec whilst allowing the French their joy of cultural bliss though under British rule. As I have outlined above I believe the best policy for the governing of Quebec is status-quo. Said policy shall ensure that this colony shall remain under British control providing unending wealth and resources for our glorious country.
