1. Describe the properties of Chemical A and Chemical B.
Chemical A properties: white, powder, soft material, solid, smells like corn starch.
Chemical B properties: clear (transparent), wet, liquid, smells like nothing.
2. Describe the properties and behavior of Oobleck.
Oobleck properties: To the human eye, it appears to be a white, creamy liquid. Then when you touch it it feels like Playdough and it turns into a solid feeling chemical. But when you pick it up and just hold it completely still in your hands, you can feel the liquid quality to it.
3. Do you think Oobleck is a gas, liquid, or solid? Why?
I believe that it is a liquid even though it feels like a solid when you first touch it. The reason I feel like it’s a liquid is because it has the qualities of liquid but I think that it is just a really thick liquid rather than it being solid.
4. Reflect on this lab: how did it help you understand KMT?
This lab helped me understand KMT better because when we first started learning KMT, I understood it, but I couldn’t get a mental picture of some of the examples and I think that this lab gave me a further understanding of how to differentiate between liquids and solids. It also helped me understand how to identify the different behaviors of gases, liquids, and solids.
