Science: Animal and Plant Cells

The animal cells we looked at tended to be open and their nucleus was visible for the most part.

The plant cells, on the other hand, were all closed and only their cell walls were visible. They were white with a few scattered purple ones.

2. You can tell easily the difference between the plant and animal cells. Animal cells tended to be more scattered and vaguely circular in shape.

Plant cells tended to be packed tight together and in a vaguely rectangular shape.

3. I think that we used methylene blue on the animal because without it, we wouldn’t be able to see the cells themselves. Also, I think that without it, the ceIls would dry out and die.I think that it wasn’t necessary for the plant cells because the water did that job instead.

4. I learned how to properly use a microscope and how a plant cell structure actually looks. While we were working, the question of how to tell an air bubble from a cell arose and we quickly found out that our “cell” was, in fact, a really big air bubble. I was curious why only some of the plant cells were violet and the colour was localized in the cell itself, not bleeding over.
