weekly reflection –
sep 12, 2025
This week was only the first week I had in 3d arts. It was cool to see all those who took the class and I enjoyed getting to know some people ! I have not taken this class before but I remember being in art club from grade 9-10, so being in a classroom environment is something new to me. I’m excited to start new projects and explore new mediums in art as well seeing as I want to go into art in the future.
Since this was the first week of school, I found myself struggling to concentrate but I eventually got back on track near the last two days. I found myself getting into the groove of doing my four square project and enjoyed the watercolouring, although it was quite a struggle since I don’t usually work with that medium.
Reflecting on the last paragraph, I think my biggest success was in fact me getting back on track to doing my projects. I am also proud of myself for making a few more connections in this class !!
A goal I have for next week is to finish my current project and become a little more focused on creating my art.

My artist philosophy!
sep 18, 2025
An artist that really inspires me is someone that helped me with my grade 9 ADL assignment “Community Connections” ( Community Connection – -Megan A – ). Their art style had a heavy influence on how I draw, and the aesthetic is exactly what I want my art to feel like (mostly). They are also animators which is inspiring to me since I really like animation! This artist is also very nice which inspires me to see someone in that industry helping others, especially a random 9th grader like I was, asking for help when wondering about the industry. As mentioned before, I really like that aesthetic; an aesthetic I want my art to feel like is probably “surreal” or scary. I love art that makes the viewer question and think, it makes me interested to see someone’s reaction to my art when they see it and say, “what is going on” or “this is cool”. Having my art stick out like that begs the question of how long did my art last in their curious mind.

This week I worked on a couple of different assignments ! I finished my life drawing (all photo evidence is above), as well as did my artist philosophy. The artist philosophy made me reflect on a very interesting artist that has inspired me for years, that was interesting for me to do. I also finished my four square assignment finally…
A struggle I found was 1. when i was working on my four square assignment and had to do the pointillism. I found this difficult because I was losing patience after being halfway there (I am glad that I continued and finished though). and 2. When I was doing my life drawing and misinterpreted the instructions, leading me to make a very detailed sketch instead of working longer on my charcoal art. A success though was when I completed my charcoal art. I haven’t used charcoal in a while and I found it successful that I was able to complete such a task; I even like the outcome as well.
A goal for next week is to start or even complete the assignment for soap sculpting that was presented this week.
Bar soap sculpture
At first I wanted to sculpt a baby on the top of the soap, but after sketching it and finalizing it while carving, I ended up not liking it. It did not satisfy me so I figured I might as well start over
and create a new sculpture since I had time in the week. I am still going to add it into this post though because I want to share that art isn’t always going to be something you are satisfied with at the first go; also that art isn’t always perfect😁!!
————————-
good copy…
I decided to do one of my favourite childhood cartoon characters Domo-Kun! I really like the look of this character and he is almost the shape of the soap bar so I thought that it would be easy for me to carve him.
After sketching I went straight to carving into my soap. My first time carving was the first draft that I did and I found it to be very fun and easy. I liked the process so I didn’t mind carving another soap bar. This second time around carving Domo-kun, I figured out techniques that I learnt from my last sculpture (the baby face). Although I did make a few mistakes such as carving the arms a little thinner than intended, the end product this time around is something that I am actually satisfied with and enjoy looking at !

There is definitely still room for improvement in my soap sculpting abilities, but i think that I did a pretty good job for my first /second attempt. I think that the whole piece is a little bit lopsided, but I think that it gives it more character ! He could also be a little smoother, and that the arms could be a little more even, but thats just me being too critical of my own art (which is something I need to improve on myself). In general, I am proud at how my piece turned out and I found the process of this project very entertaining !:)

This week I successfully completed my soap sculting assignment. I worked on it throughout the week as well as all my sketches were done throughout this week. All of my process photos are above this reflection, seeing as the assignment is posted above.
A struggle I found myself in was carving too deep into the soap and not being able to undo it becuase of the fact that it is carved. I found it difficult to even out the soap and make the surface smooth as well. I did find success in making the shape of my sculpture though and I am proud that I was able to even make a figurine of my sketch instead the first place. I enjoyed the process as well and found it fun to carve the soap.
A goal for next week is to start thinking about what I want to do for my actual soap stone sculpting project. I want to also choose what I want to carve and maybe (a very big maybe), even start carving.
Research and Ideation (PURPOSE + PROCE
SS)
October 2, 2025
research documentation-PURPOSE
A sculpture artist that I really find fascinating is Eric Valat. He sculpts many animals using soapstone as well and his animals have a look that really reels me in. I love how cartoony all his sculptures look. I personally also love the long dog looking sculpture on the top left, although I don’t want to sculpt something that thin…

I am estimating that this sculpture will fit in the palm of my hand.
weekly reflection –
oct 3, 2025
I did not do much this week other than try and learn how to sculpt with the soapstone. I started carving and got confused with what I was carving so I ended up using 3 days for that, and it was not very productive because I am not satisfied with the sculpture. I did find it interesting to compare how easy it was carving with soap and the difference when switching to soapstone ! I think that I will personally enjoy this project because I am enjoying the carving aspect of 3d arts.
Something I struggled with this week was already kind of mentioned, I saved some things to my pinterest board of what I wanted to carve, and the original idea was a snake, but I now think that I will not be doing a snake. It was a struggle to come to terms with the work that I will loose throughout half the week, but I think that in the end, I will appreciate myself and thank myself for doing what I did. Although this week was not as productive as the rest, I did find a success in my learning abilities. Switching from a bar soap to soapstone was a huge jump and I am proud of myself for being able to handle the switch as quickly as I did. I honestly enjoy soapstone more too !!
A goal for next week is to definitely be more productive in what I do and think ahead instead of work right away. I hope to finish my pinch-pumpkin as well, and to finally finalize my idea on my soapstone so I wont have to go through this again.
weekly reflection –
oct 10, 2025
Throughout the week I have been working on my pinch-pumpkin as well as my ideation for my soapstone sculpture. I have finished sculpting my pumpkin and I am going to wait over the weekend for it to dry so I can finally start painting it ! I was happy when I heard that we would be working with clay because I really enjoy it:)
A struggle that I had to overcome this week was learning how to connect the two half’s of the pumpkin together. I asked my peers to teach me because I did not want to mess something up, and I successfully connected the two half’s. The process photo ont he right was the smoothness I ended up being able to give my pumpkin (unfortunately the picture of my pumpkin before I started painting got deleted).
My goal for next week is to finish painting my pumpkin and to give it life with a cute face. I want to also finish up my ideation for my soapstone sculpture; it is basically done, I just need to confirm it with the teacher.

This week I was working on my pinch-pot pumpkin and
painting it ! I am happy with how it turned out and I cant wait for it to be fired. Additionally, I also finalized what I was going to do for my soapstone sculpture since I did not like my previous idea and thought to change it.
This week was a little bit shorter since we had thanksgiving Monday off, so I found it to be a little big stressful with my assignments. I did end up finishing my assignments though, so I am satisfied with that and find that to be my greatest success this week. (also the fact that I love how my pumpkin looks so far).
A goal I have for next week is to finally start shaping my soapstone so that I can see the general shape/idea. I want to also glaze my pumpkin and see the final product (if there is going to be a fire this week/next week).
weekly reflection –
This week I finished up my pumpkin (aka waited for it to be done firing in the kiln) as well as worked on my soapstone. I think this week was consumed all by the soapstone carving and making sure that the shape actually came to life. I remember my hands felt weird after carb ing because of the access shavings.
A struggle that I encountered this week was actually getting the shape down and not breaking or shaving parts on the soapstone I didn’t want off. Although I had that struggle, the success connects very well. I think that this week I successfully carved a lot of my stone without making any major mistakes; matter of fact I don’t think that I carved off anything that was of importance.
My goal for next week is definitely to complete my stone because the due date is next week and I want to be able to get my grade. I also just want to see the finished product:)
Pinch-Pot Pumpkin- Making (PROCESS)
There were many steps in creating this pumpkin, those of which included cutting out a slab of clay to actually shaping the sculpture. I got the clay out of this bag, and made sure to close it after using it to ensure that the clay would stay wet.
This sponge played a vital role in smoothening the edges of my pumpkin. It helped the two half’s to the pumpkin stick together as well (i also used slip and a needle.
While carving my pumpkin, I made sure to not go to deep so that the sides wouldn’t collapse in or eachother. Carving as well as adding clay for details was fun and I enjoyed making my pumpkin come to life. The next image is how my pumpkin looks painted but not fired.
After painting it and having it fire, I glazed it and waiting patiently for it to be fired and done. I also coated the bott of my pumpkin with wax to ensure that the bottom had a finished and complete look.

This week I successfully got my pumpkin back from the kiln ! Well I actually got prob fridayb but I decided to add it into my journal this week. This week I also worked in completing my soapstone ! My workspace was a mess but I am proud of my finished product. I had to also sand off the excess scratches on my soapstone with sandpaper and steal wool to finish it off. The steal wool really made my stone smooth. I also added mineral oil after to make it shiny and even smoother to the touch.
A struggle from this week was sanding the scratches off and making the finish as smooth as possible. I wanted it to be smooth to the touch and look. A success of this week was definitely how smooth I ended up getting the rock. I am also proud of completing the project in general because it took so long.
Next week I am unsure of my goal because I do not really have another project to think of right now, but it will most likely be the coil pot project.
Carving Soap stone pt.2 (PROCESS+PRODUCT)
Materials I used-
-shaving tools/rasp
-Sponge & Water
-wooden plank to cover table
-Saw
-Soapstone
-Water-bath

The photo above is the original soapstone used, I used this base to the
n shave away and create the wolf sculpture you see in the bottom. Using water to help soak up all of the shaving access to protect my lungs in the process. I decided to saw off many of the unnecessary parts.
As the week went on, I slowly saw the shape coming together.
Above is the finished sculpture before sanding it and oiling it with mineral oil.
After carving I chose a bit of a finer sandpaper because I did not need any course grit sandpaper to shave away any deep scratches.
This is a close up of my soapstone after adding 3 layers of mineral oil. The four pictures at the bottom is the complete finished look of my art piece:)
I made this an animal knowing the rock came from nature itself. I wanted to encapsulate the emotions throughout the body language the wolf expressed; showing how calm nature can be. I sculpted with care and hope my efforts in keeping the calmness and purity stayed encaptured within the stone.
Presentation-
How will your sculpture be viewed?
I hope that my sculpture if viewed as how I described it in my artist statement.
Does it required being fastened or hung?
No my sculpture does not need to be fastened or hung. The sculpture lays flat on a surface and is stable on its own.
Will you need a plinth or a base?
I think that either would work but a nice plinth would look good. More logically, I think a small base would be cute as well.

This week I focused mostly on starting and finishing my blog posts. I had some missing posts so I wanted to catchup and not stress over them all. I formatted/took pictures of the two projects I completed (pinch pot pumpkin and soap stone) as well as reflected upon the outcome of them. I did some missing joumals too!
Taking the pictures of my projects seemed to be troubling, not that it was hard, but because I forgot to use a light box. (which in return, made me retake many pictutes). Completing all of my blog posts including my weekly journals that were missing!
A goal I have for next week is starting our new project, getting an idea for it.
Coil Vessels: Research and Ideation (PURPOSE)
Group– Me, Emilia S, Celeste L
Theme- Ocean/Aquatic
After many sketches, I finally decided what my coil vessel design would be. It is, in short, a fish sitting on a turtles back, fishing for a human in the center. (though I will not be able to make the fishing line with clay and 1am worried the fishis fishing pole will break. My group will all use it for either jewlery or our Keys.
Positive and Negative space-
In this project, positive space will be the clay itself (the whole project basically). The negative Space being the inside of the bowl, like a crater. The ridges of the coils could also be seen representing both positive and negative space, but in general I think this project contains more positive space (That may be wrong though).
Coil Vessels: Collaboration and concept drawing (PURPOSE AND PROCESS)
Allignement- Our vessels will be Aligned not stacked, not off set, but they will all be next to eachother, 3 in a row. All of our projects (bowls) connect, not in a physical way, but more in a functional way. We will be using them for our keys/jewlery:)
The concept drawing (mine) is already attatched above^^ and all my group members have posted theirs as well.
*The concept is already approved by Mr. Rosington*

This week I was not all that productive compared to the last few weeks. Yes, I was productive, but not as much as I would have liked. This was because my group and I struggled to pick a
connecting theme for the coil vesse project! we had so many ideas lol. But once we got our idea, we began sketching. I finished my Sketch on thursday, and finally began making the project. I only got a little structure, but I am glad it is at least started.
As mentioned before, I struggled to pick a theme with my group for the coil vessel assignment. Although picking the theme was my struggle, on the ladder, figuring out the theme and starting my “vessel” was my greatest success! very happy:)
A goal for next week is to continue the coil vessel assignment; start painting it (possibly start painting it)

This week I (basically) completed my goal that I set for myself last week. I finished sculpting my projet, but not painting it. Sadly I tried very hard to keep the original figh ontop of the sculpture, but it broke while drying on the bisque fire trays. Other than that, I like how the base turned out. I also further discussed with my group, stratigizing how our projects would connect, when
completed.
Actually making and attatching the coils was honestly a struggle. I found it difficult to keep it moist yet not too wet in order to connect the parts together. It was also difficult to Keep the fish on, and when it broke, it was a little difficult planning what to do next. Completing the base of my sculpture was successful (in general) and I cant wait to start painting it next week!
A goal for next week is to finish painting my project and possibly glaze a section (since im using the fancy glaze on some parts).
Coil Vessels: Making & Glazes (PROCESS)
These are just my process pictures and are not in a light box, although I did take many photos. When I have a final product, I will not need a backdrop and will probably only use the white background of the light box. (I am pretty sure this goes for my group members as well.
Glazing-
Bisque fire (with base of funky glaze):
First glaze fire (with fancy glaze):
Second glaze fire (with clear glaze):
weekly reflection –

I completed 2 things this week, fixing (finally) the broken fish ontop of the rim of my bowl, as well as painting it and putting it on the bisque firing trays. The original plan was to do a bisque fire without paint so it could be bone dry, but offer the fish broke, i thought “Why bother” This means I will only have to do 3 fires! (which significantly reduces my process time:))
There honestly was not a struggle this week from what I remember! I think all my struggles from this week magically got moved so I would deal with them last week; It all balanced out. Painting what was needed for my coil vessel was succossel and glad it’s done.
I want to wax off parts I do not want glazed with the fancy stuff. I hope that I can finish it next week (including the clear glaze) but that really depends on the firing schedule of the art classes.
Coil Vessels: Documentation (PRODUCT)

Artist Statement-
The bowl above, structured meticulously wide coils and squiggly lines, represents the love my group and I for the ocean (and mine for calmness). The inspirations behind the vessel come from Pinterest; an app filled with many inspiring artists . I was overflowed with all the creativity and I hope that got reflected within my art. As for the process, it was very time consuming and tested by patience, but at the same time it was calming and enjoyable. All the decisions made are a reflection of the piece itself and although it was slightly chaotic, it was very enjoyable.
Inquiry Term-Long Project (PURPOSE)
1. What would you like to investigate/make as a term-long project? (add sketches from sketchbook)
– Pennywise figurine – semi large
Sketch-
-Patchwork hoodie – small
-Short film – large
2. What do you need to get started?
1. Pennywise figurine
I would love to create this using found objects or some new type of clay I am not used to using. Maybe like a clay that hardens sort of like polymer. I will be using wire as well in this process, and learn as I go on with the figurine.
2. Patchwork Hoodie
This is a matching sweater with my friend Emilia, who is also in this class. We will be experimenting with textile (sewing, patchwork) as a medium. Others online have done patchwork and we both want to try it and put our own spin to it !
3. Short-film
Alike the other project, Emilia and I will also be doing this project together. We owuld like to experiment with emetic and create a short film to add to our portfolios in post secondary. She will be acting and I will be doing the videographing. We will both edit together, although I will be working with the editing application. We will be adding our prebuilt projects into the film as a 3d aspect. The 3d aspect will also be presented using the real world, knowing how process is also taking place in a 3d world. This goes for the acting itself, the props, the background environment, and how we setup the scenes in general.
3. How will you begin the project?
1. Pennywise figurine
I will start by building a structure, this project will be done while doing the film project-
I might find it difficult to actually build the structure for the figurine. It might also be a struggle to figure out the best material to use when building. Not to mention the face might be a challenge.
2. Patchwork Hoodie
I will finish this project first, starting with thrifting a hoodie from value village-
I might find it hard to see some things onto my hoodie depending on how small it is. I might also find some fabrics hard to work with but I will figure that out when the time comes.
3. Short-Film
Emilia and I will create a storyboard and maybe find some music; or we may not even use music at all-
It will be difficult because filming it during class, but also we (Emilia and I) may have to do some things out of school hours. It may also be challenging to overcome some scene difficulties.
weekly reflection –
dec 5, 2025
This week I was pretty productive, I did many edublog posts as well as bisque fired my coil vessel and put on the funky glaze for its first glaze fire.
Something I struggled with this week was definitely patience. I had to have patience waiting for my vessel to be done bisque firing because I was so ready to put the first coat of glaze on. Although that was a struggle, I managed to successfully put the layer of glaze onto my project, and I think it looks really good so far. I am excited to see how it will turn out after firing.
A goal that I saw set for myself next week, is to hope that my coil project is done firing in the glaze fire, and to finally put the clear glaze, final coat onto it. Then i will finish the post for my documentation, and take pictures for my final product !
