Connection Based Learning

2.As a class we skype chatted Mrs. Nakabugo’s class where they talked about how life in Uganda is and problems in their country, Uganda. Individually we were suppose to find various ways we can help Ugandan people which I believed that water purification was a great way we could help them. Once we have chosen our way to help people in Uganda, we were put into groups of 3 where my group was all interested in water purification. We decided that we could make a water life straw where it would be a purifier in a straw that you would drink off of.

3.Throughout the time we were making prototypes, we were trying the get the perfect amount of activated charcoal because we had many attempts where the water you drink was black due to the result of too much charcoal. the black water itself was not a problem as it is consumable however it looks unappealing. We indeed met our goal in making a prototype where it is very portable and purifies water.

4. The collaboration went well, it was a journey where I have learned a lot from because I have taken a lot for granted and now know the importance of clean water and how fortunate I am. Our purifier removes majority of the bacteria however not all which is what we could have improved or done better. our goal was to make a very portable water purifier but we could not make it good enough where it removes all bacteria. I felt very glad how we were able to connect with Ugandan people because I got an opportunity to learn about life and problems in Uganda.

  1. I am very proud of the work you and your group did to find a portable water purification solution in a straw. I appreciate the research you did to create something that would be effective in removing pollutants and bacteria. I am glad that you honestly state that your innovation doesn’t remove all of the bacteria and requires some more innovating. Thanks for making a difference. I will gladly share your innovation with our Ugandan learning partners.

    1. Thank you for the comment Mr. Robinson, I am happy that you liked it. through this project I have learned a lot for example the fundamentals of water purification and the situation our learning partners are in. I am happy to collaborate with our learning partners and the group I was in for the straw purification
