in this unit the area I tend to struggle with is word problems. I struggle with understanding what to do and how to draw out the equation from word problems. one that I had most difficulty with was the first one below. the mistake I made was placements of the numbers, I used all the correct numbers just in the incorrect spot causing the answer to be wrong.
- two cities are 575 km apart on a map 1 cm represents 120 km how far apart are the cities on the map.
575/120 = 1/x x= 0.20
the correct answer for this equation is…
1/120 = x/575 x= 4.79
the second equation in this unit I struggled with as well was another word equation
2. a driving distance is 650 km, the distance shown on a map is 4 cm, what is the scale factor?
650/1 = 4/ x SF= 0.61
the correct answer for this equation is…
SF= 4/650000000, = 1/162500000
