stretch the kitchen
our group had decided to make doughnuts, it was fun because none of us had made it before but we all were a little bit sceptical about making doughnuts in the oven. overall our turnout of the recipe didn’t work at all it was very liquid and ended up looking like very oddly shaped pancakes. I think the reason they didn’t turn out as well as we thought was because we used whole wheat flower instead of all purpose, I’m not exactly sure if this could affect the recipe but that’s what I’m pretty sure went wrong because we had done the directions as they were told.
and as you can see in the picture they don’t even look like doughnuts…

PART 1
in this unit the area I tend to struggle with is word problems. I struggle with understanding what to do and how to draw out the equation from word problems. one that I had most difficulty with was the first one below. the mistake I made was placements of the numbers, I used all the correct numbers just in the incorrect spot causing the answer to be wrong.
- two cities are 575 km apart on a map 1 cm represents 120 km how far apart are the cities on the map.
575/120 = 1/x x= 0.20
the correct answer for this equation is…
1/120 = x/575 x= 4.79
the second equation in this unit I struggled with as well was another word equation
2. a driving distance is 650 km, the distance shown on a map is 4 cm, what is the scale factor?
650/1 = 4/ x SF= 0.61
the correct answer for this equation is…
SF= 4/650000000, = 1/162500000

Potato project
for breakfast we have hash browns which are crispy fried potatoes in small shapes.
ingredients: potatoes- 1.36
for lunch we have poutine, a dish with fries gravy and cheese with added green onion.
ingredients: potatoes- 0.38, cheese-2.14, gravy- 1.28
baked potato and finally for dinner we have baked potatoes with sour cream, bacon and green onion.
ingredients: potatoes- 1.52, cheese- 2.14, bacon- 3.48, sour cream- 3.49, green onion- 0.58
total price= 16.37
