Digital Footprint

Introduction:

In this new age of the internet finding information on someone just takes a full name and a web browser to know someones town/city, family members, and even personal life. In this project we search the web and find the digital footprint we left.

How might your digital footprint affect your future opportunities?
Give at least two examples.

Over the years there have been plenty of stories of people losing jobs/job offers, internships and scholarships to stuff they did/said on the internet that was connected to their name. How i see it there are three ways your digital footprint could affect your future. You could have a positive digital footprint online, an example for this is having a social media account where you regularly post things related to you doing things like volunteering, helping others, etc. You could also have a negative digital footprint, an example of this is posting negative comments or posting bad things on your social media profile. There is also a possibility of having minimal or no minimal footprint online connected to your name i fall under this category since i have no trace to my name online. With all these risks it would definitely be a good idea to know how to keep your information safe and appropriate.

Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your
digital footprint appropriate and safe.

Since companies can find information in just a few searches it would be a good idea to be smart with what you do online. There are a few things you can do to either keep your information private or have a good. If you wanna be more private online there are things you can, for example keeping your social media accounts on private and not using your full name in your account names can help with you being anonymous online. If you’re fine with having information about you on the web then a few things you can do to keep it clean, things like not posting bad things on your social media can really help with your public image. The other thing you could do is just be silent online and have no social media, personally for me i wouldn’t do this but if you don’t use social media this is a possible choice.

What information did you learn that you would pass on to other
students? How would you go about telling them?

The information i learnt would benefit many other of my peers in the future. Things like not posting bad things online and keeping their name online clean would help lots with job interviews and post secondary school applications. One thing i find really helpful is that employers are probably more likely to hire someone who regularly posts about good deeds because that gives off the idea that the person is hard working and would be a good asset to their business. That’s only a few examples on how to keep your digital footprint clean there are many written articles about this subject that you can read.

Conclusion:

Overall this project was interesting and i was surprised that i couldn’t find anything about me online and i even learned a bit more on how to keep my information online private and safe. After this project ill be sure to keep my digital footprint clean.
