Ear wax is a substance that is found in the ear’s of all humans. Its role is to block water and bacteria from fully entering the ear, and protects the ear canal in various ways. The wax can either be wet or dry. When someone has wet ear wax, it will resemble as to a clump of dark honey. When someone has dry ear wax, it will resemble sand like dust. The wet wax is the dominant allele, whereas the dry wax is the recessive allele. Most Africans and Europeans carry the dominant allele and have wet wax. On the other hand, most East Asians and Native Americans carry the recessive allele and have dry wax. Scientists believe that East Asians and Native Americans have dry wax because of the lower quantity of sweat and body fluid loss. It has been found that wet wax is related to armpit odour, which is also related to sweat. As the people with dry wax originally lived in cold climates, scientists believe this is the main reason why these people have dry wax. To help clean your ear of ear wax, it is proved that continuous and frequent moving of the jaw (talking, eating), helps to clean your ear. It is important that you clean the wax because too much wax can clog your ear canal, resulting in loss of hearing, and you slowly go deaf.
