The Bastille being destroyed

The fall of Bastille was an act of rebellion that caused a huge domino effect. This event really changed everything for the people of France. When poverty and starvation in the third estate still had not been addressed, and prices in bread raised when barley anyone had enough money to live, riots broke out in Paris and some other countries. Citizens armed themselves when Louis tried to restore peace by sending forgein mercenary troops to Paris. This was a poor decision by Louis because it just made people frightened and suspicious. A mob attacked the Bastille which was a prison in Paris. There were only seven prisoners but all of them escaped. About 100 citizens were killed in this tragic event.

The declaration

The declaration of the rights of man and the citizen had a very positive effect for the peasants of France. This caused a very long term effect that shaped the future. The declaration of the rights of man created the idea that people everywhere were entitled to basic human rights. This was good for the peasants of France because they would now have the rights that they deserved. Robespierre used the declaration to suggest that Jews where entitled to equality and civil rights that others had. But it wasn’t easy creating the equality that the peasants desired. There was a debate and lots of disagreeing about who these rights were going to apply to. The declaration did not specifically guarantee the rights to women, slaves or racial minorities. So this declaration was just a start to everyone having equal rights. The basic idea of the declaration was that all “men are born and remain free and equal in rights”. These rights were the rights to liberty, private property, the inviolability of the person, and resistance to oppression. When these rights were made, it wasn’t a good thing for the first and second estate because it meant that they lost a huge amount of there power.

People being executed by the guillotine

The Reign of terror was a cruel event that didn’t only had negative effects but also had a positive effect for France. The Reign of terror shaped the coarse of the French Revolution. The reign of terror was a brutal event that was very unfair and had a huge effect on everyone. Harsh laws were put on the people of France. When the guillotine was invented the number of executions were highly increased. About 40,000 people were executed. They were unreasonable and cruel and killed anyone who was against the revolution. Little things by saying something negative about the revolution or even just not being enthusiastic enough about it would get you executed. They thought that by killing people who thought differently would make France a better place to live in. This really relates to people today. Some people think that when other people think differently then them, that they are wrong, and that they shouldn’t and don’t deserve to get a chance for them to speak there mind and say what they think is right.

Many important events in the French Revolution like the fall of Bastille, the declaration of rights of the man and the Reign of terror helped shape the future for the better. Even though there were cruel deaths, many people also benefitted. And all of the positive events overruled the negative events that were caused. Overall the French Revolution was more positive than negative.
