Rube Goldberg Machine- The Cereal Pourer

For my Rube Goldberg machine, I built a cereal pourer. The first step is burning the string that is attached to the orange, then the orange rolls and causes the books to fall like dominoes. The last book lands on a chopstick which, lifts it letting go of the elastic. The elastic then shoots the car forward and hits the pumpkin into the container. The heavier side of the pulley drops down and allows the wood to create a ramp for the apple to roll down. The final step is the apple rolling and hitting the cereal box into the bowl.

Five Forms of Energy:

  1. Thermal Energy; The lighter
  2. Gravitational Energy; The orange rolling down the inclined plane
  3. Elastic Energy; The elastic band getting released
  4. Mechanical Energy; The car moving and hitting the pumpkin
  5. Gravitational Energy; The cereal box falling over

Three forms of Energy Transfers:

  1. Thermal Energy to Gravitational Energy; The string being burnt to letting the orange roll
  2. Elastic Energy to Mechanical Energy; The rubber band hitting the car to the car moving forward
  3. Mechanical Energy to Gravitational Energy; The moving car hits the pumpkin and the pumpkin falls into the container.

Three Simple Machines:

  1. Inclined Plane; The ramp
  2. Wheel and Axel; The car
  3. Pulley; The two containers

Steps:

  1. Burn string connecting the ball to the wall
  2. Ball rolls and hits books
  3. The last book falls and hits chopstick; letting go of elastic
  4. Elastic hits ca
  5. The car moves forward and hits the pumpkin
  6. Pumpkin falls and lifts the other container
  7. Wood falls and apple rolls down knocking over the cereal box
