Scientific Method and Paper Airplanes

From this assignment, I learned how to properly conduct an experiment using the scientific method. The scientific method involves a five-step process.  First, make an observation, follow up by a hypothesis, then experiment. After, collect the data and form a conclusion. My partner and I used the scientific method to test out our hypothesis, that an airplane with upwards facing wings will travel the furthest because the flaps will cause drag. Although, our hypothesis was rejected because we discovered that a paper airplane with downward-facing flaps can travel further than an airplane with no flaps or upward facing flaps. This is because the downward- facing flaps cause more drag which helps the plane land smoothly and at a slower speed.  We came to this conclusion by testing out three different planes; without flaps, downward-facing flaps and upwards facing flaps. Next time I would try to launch the planes with the same amount of force each time. As well as I would try and do it in a smaller space so that the measuring is more accurate.
