How does your digital footprint affect your future opportunities?
A person’s digital footprint can affect their future opportunities because if you posted something inappropriate or rude, anyone can find it on the internet. This could affect you because if you apply for a job, and they google you, they could find some bad information about you or a bad comment you made, and they probably wont give you the job. Same thing but for university, if you apply, they might google you to see what you’re like and what you act like, and if they see something that you said or posted, you wont get in.
Describe at least three strategies that you can use to keep your digital footprint appropriate and safe.
- Don’t post or comment on anything that you think you will regret in a few years, this could save you from loosing a great opportunity in your future.
- Try to google yourself and you might be shocked what you find, you might not want to post many things after you find out that everyone can see what you do online.
- Don’t overshare, this will allow more and more people to see, and keep spreading until it’s all over social media platforms.
What information did you learn that you would pass on to other students? How would you go about telling them?
I learned that your digital footprint can really affect your future, and things that are put on the internet will stay on the internet. I would just explain to the students about what can happen if people find out your background on the internet/ social media and how much of an impact it has on you.
