The Bento Box project is a method of analyzing a novel by using various objects as symbols or representatives of the literary elements and themes of the novel, such as the author’s writing style or the personalities of some characters. These objects often come from the novel itself, but can also symbolize these aspects in general.
The novel which is incorporated into this project is Son of a Trickster, written by Eden Robinson. It is about an Indigenous teenager named Jared, who struggles with alcohol and drug addictions as he attempts to seek reprieve and a place to belong due to his family complications and a troubling past as a result of generations of trauma.
