Q4 Reflection + Core Competency
Tech Initiatives + Assignments
What are some initiatives\things\volunteering you have been involved with this past term? Describe what you have done, and the time you have spent.
This term, I’ve put a lot of my time towards producing content for @rapidevent. Whether that be uploading and helping Ms. Jeong with Spirit Week updates, The Current or creating content of my own as an opportunity for students to engage in school spirit. In previous videos, I did a fashion outfit check, doing my ongoing g25 signout series, the RSS Showcase Official Beyblade Tournament, and have plans to do more content.
What are some things you have learned?
This year, I’ve developed some social skills that I otherwise wouldn’t have without making the outfit check videos and the signout videos. I’ve learned how to make engaging small talk with people, how to edit loads of videos in only a short amount of time, and make my community feel welcome when I try get them to be apart of a @rapidevent video. I’ve learned how important it is to plan ahead every detail and clear communication being prioritized over everything else.
What are some of the challenges, aha moments, small wins…you experienced?
The main challenge I had was always deciding what to do in every single hour of the day. Time had become more valuable the more projects I started to take on, especially with how ambitious each one was getting. But after I learned how to time-block and spend my time more efficiently, I’ve been able to do more and feel better doing so, which is a small win for me.
Core Competency – Social Responsibility and Awareness
What are your specific strengths?
- I can solve some problems myself and can identify when to ask for help
My strongest example of this was during the G25 Signout, as I was planning out to borrow equipment and figuring out where I could get the materials and experience to built the glass mount for my station, I knew I would be better off not wasting time and energy trying to figure it out myself when I could just ask Mr. Romani or Mr. Schoenhals for a couple ideas. They ended up helping me and it was there I learned I will never be afraid of asking the experienced people to help with my project, whilst holding up my end of the project. I learned the appropriate times to ask for help while still holding myself accountable for what I needed to get done.
- I am kind to others, can work or play co-operatively, and can build relationships with people of my choosing
This year has been my biggest turn around in terms of meeting new people, and continuing to built new relationships with people around my community. I feel connected to multiple areas in the school because of Tech Team, whether that be Tech Team itself outside of social media team, Leadership with Ms. Jeong, the RSS Showcase Club, the film department with Mr. Schoenhals, the makerspace with Ms. Leong and Ms. Henderson, as well as most of students in our school.
- I can clarify problems or issues, generate multiple strategies, weigh consequences, compromise to meet the needs of others, and evaluate actions.
In my planning for each video, and a clear idea for my work ethic is that I am consistently making sure everyone has a say and has a clear understanding for my videos, including myself. I’ve been very open about what the Grads are to expect in my G25 Signout videos as well as accepting feedback on form posts. I’ve been able to manage my time with new strategies and weigh out each of my tasks, prioritizing the ones that are closest, and while I try to plan as much as possible, I still am able to solve problems or issues when they come up. On top of my academics, managing all of this has been my strength.
What are some specific stretches, areas for growth?
I believe my biggest area for growth is still needing to rewire my brain in terms of how I use my freetime. Recently, I’ve been seeing projects, videos and activities @rapidevent/tech team related as a method to consistently fill up my time with something so I am consistently on the move of contributing to something, whether that be the community or honing my own skills. But in the times where I may have a lot of free time, I feel like a good portion of it goes to waste, either scrolling or just idling.
What are some goal to grow in this area?
Moving forward from school, I want to rewire my brain. Minimize my scrolling and idlying to atleast 30 minutes a day. Replace the routine of winding back with a new activity whilst still letting my brain take a break. People generations before us never had a social media or separate world to dive into in their spare time, and right now the only world I want to spend time in is the one I’m living in right now.
