Tech Team – Q4 Reflection + Core Competency

Q4 Reflection + Core Competency

Tech Initiatives + Assignments

What are some initiatives\things\volunteering you have been involved with this past term? Describe what you have done, and the time you have spent.

This term, I’ve put a lot of my time towards producing content for @rapidevent. Whether that be uploading and helping Ms. Jeong with Spirit Week updates, The Current or creating content of my own as an opportunity for students to engage in school spirit. In previous videos, I did a fashion outfit check, doing my ongoing g25 signout series, the RSS Showcase Official Beyblade Tournament, and have plans to do more content.

What are some things you have learned?

This year, I’ve developed some social skills that I otherwise wouldn’t have without making the outfit check videos and the signout videos. I’ve learned how to make engaging small talk with people, how to edit loads of videos in only a short amount of time, and make my community feel welcome when I try get them to be apart of a @rapidevent video. I’ve learned how important it is to plan ahead every detail and clear communication being prioritized over everything else.

What are some of the challenges, aha moments, small wins…you experienced?

The main challenge I had was always deciding what to do in every single hour of the day. Time had become more valuable the more projects I started to take on, especially with how ambitious each one was getting. But after I learned how to time-block and spend my time more efficiently, I’ve been able to do more and feel better doing so, which is a small win for me.

Core Competency – Social Responsibility and Awareness

What are your specific strengths?

  • I can solve some problems myself and can identify when to ask for help

My strongest example of this was during the G25 Signout, as I was planning out to borrow equipment and figuring out where I could get the materials and experience to built the glass mount for my station, I knew I would be better off not wasting time  and energy trying to figure it out myself when I could just ask Mr. Romani or Mr. Schoenhals for a couple ideas. They ended up helping me and it was there I learned I will never be afraid of asking the experienced people to help with my project, whilst holding up my end of the project. I learned the appropriate times to ask for help while still holding myself accountable for what I needed to get done.

  • I am kind to others, can work or play co-operatively, and can build relationships with people of my choosing

This year has been my biggest turn around in terms of meeting new people, and continuing to built new relationships with people around my community. I feel connected to multiple areas in the school because of Tech Team, whether that be Tech Team itself outside of social media team, Leadership with Ms. Jeong, the RSS Showcase Club, the film department with Mr. Schoenhals, the makerspace with Ms. Leong and Ms. Henderson, as well as most of students in our school.

  • I can clarify problems or issues, generate multiple strategies, weigh consequences, compromise to meet the needs of others, and evaluate actions.

In my planning for each video, and a clear idea for my work ethic is that I am consistently making sure everyone has a say and has a clear understanding for my videos, including myself. I’ve been very open about what the Grads are to expect in my G25 Signout videos as well as accepting feedback on form posts. I’ve been able to manage my time with new strategies and weigh out each of my tasks, prioritizing the ones that are closest, and while I try to plan as much as possible, I still am able to solve problems or issues when they come up. On top of my academics, managing all of this has been my strength.

What are some specific stretches, areas for growth?

I believe my biggest area for growth is still needing to rewire my brain in terms of how I use my freetime. Recently, I’ve been seeing projects, videos and activities @rapidevent/tech team related as a method to consistently fill up my time with something so I am consistently on the move of contributing to something, whether that be the community or honing my own skills. But in the times where I may have a lot of free time, I feel like a good portion of it goes to waste, either scrolling or just idling.

What are some goal to grow in this area?

Moving forward from school, I want to rewire my brain. Minimize my scrolling and idlying to atleast 30 minutes a day. Replace the routine of winding back with a new activity whilst still letting my brain take a break. People generations before us never had a social media or separate world to dive into in their spare time, and right now the only world I want to spend time in is the one I’m living in right now.

Describe a Strength that you think you have regarding what we have covered so far in Calculus 12. It could be about a specific curricular competencies or the core competencies.

So far I believe limits are a strength for me, it’s not evident from my test results but I believe I know better now than before. Outside of specifics, when I actually start studying, I can study efficiently and usually get the assignment done. I just have more trouble starting those study sessions and opening an opportunity for me to do so.

Describe a Stretch (something that you still need to work on) regarding what we have covered so far in Calculus 12.  It could be about a specific curricular competencies or the core competencies.

I need to start coming to class on time and not try to be comfortable in the class when I know I need work and better understanding of what I’m studying. I also need to start asking more questions and I should be looking into derivatives on the side again, atleast a little bit.

Describe a measurable Goal that you would like to achieve.

I want to try and complete every assignment this unit, to at least some extent, like halfway. To achieve this goal I want to atleast study during my freetime in school like lunch break or free blocks or tell myself to do at least 5 minutes of math when I can, then advance to 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 60 minutes, and so on.

The Machine Stops English 12 Project

Here is my propaganda poster supporting The Machine’s and Central Committee’s perspective from The Machine Stops. I used Source Filmmaker to develop this propaganda poster.

The Central Comittee values your precious time. Devote it to The Machine

Bless The Machine and the Machine will bless you, your friends, and your neighbors. Resist, and your world will desist you.

Imagine a hand comprised of bolts and screws reaching out to you, offering a life of peace and purpose. But understand that the hand that will feed and serve you, will ultimately kill you. It will give your life a purpose, but that purpose is for nothing but The Machine’s lifespan. I want to encapsulate this in the poster’s visuals: the paradoxical oppressors offering you comfort, who could “work without [you], and if it could, let you die.” (Forster 15) The Machine and Central Committee are to be feared, which is why I implemented the threat, “Your world will desist you.” Punishments from the faceless Central Committee like “refusing” requests “to be a father” and homelessness are sentenced to those who oppose. (Forster 12) The Machine and don’t reject first-hand ideas. Fear won’t bring praise, and so to include appealing to authority/deification devices, I implemented words referencing religion like blessings, and saint-like symbols like hands reaching out from the light as if “God had made the machine.” (Forster 2) Finally, I implemented bandwagoning, including The Machine’s chairs occupied by citizens, as well as including the reader’s family and neighbors. Alluding to the wide positive use of the Machine.  Citizens exclaim that the Machine “feeds us and clothes us and houses us; through it, we speak to one another, we see one another, in it we have our being… the Machine is omnipotent, eternal; blessed is the Machine.” (Forster 19) The creation of this poster involved my critical and creative thinking, by using my creative abilities to create slogans and visual devices, while critically thinking to connect them to plots and themes of the book. Ultimately, this poster is more reminiscent of propaganda that would exist if the Machine existed today, drawing from modern fonts and realistic art. But let it be known The Machine does exist in our world. In our pockets, on our wrists, and desks. The same smart devices that give us joy are the same devices, run by committees that thrive on letting you drown in ecstasy born from their products, and reduce you to a consumer.
