1.)The man fishes at night because there are more mullets out at night. He fishes alone because it is calming, and he finds it exhilarating and different from his normal life. This leads to the conflict because no one could help him if something bad happened. It was also too dark to tell if the the swirling thing in the water was a mullet or a ray.
2.) Some examples of foreshadowing are:
-When the he ties the noose around his wrist (foreshadowing death)
-When he mentions that the water is dangerous at night
-The man decides that he will not go far
-He saved the baby porpoise
-The sardines were scared
-He looked in the net for sting rays
3.) Complicating incident- The man decieded not to fish unless he found two or more swirls
Crisis- The man gets pulled into the water
Climax- When he made the U shape with the rope, and was free
Resolution- the man let the mullet go

5.) The man learned how it feels to be on the other side of being trapped. That is why he freed the mullet. He was humbled.

David Conroy from A Mountain Journey is very prideful and stubborn man, which ultimately leads to his own frozen death. Conroy is stubborn because he knows that it will become dark soon and that he needs to take a make a camp for the night, but he doesn’t because pride gets the best of him. His thoughts were that, “He should stop, make a fire, dry his hands and feet, change his socks and mittens.” But he changes his mind and thinks, “But it was late. It would mean siwashing for another night underneath a tree.”
Dave Conroy had a chance of surviving the trip to Hoodoo Mountain if he listened to his safer thoughts, rather than the thoughts pushing him to move on. Usually traits like prideful, ambitious, and determined are positive, but in this case they caused Conroy’s death.
1.) Dave Conroy was in the woods because he is a trapper.
2.) The reader can tell the that Conroy will not make it to the cabin when he falls into the water and get wet. He is too stubborn to stop and make a fire. HE also should have waited until winter was over before he decide to travel.
3.) To prevent himself from freezing, Conroy should’ve changed his gloves and socks when they got wet. He also should have stopped to make a fire to keep warm.
4.) Conroy is a trapper in the cold forest. He is trying to reach Hoodoo cabin before night. He is tired and cold but he is too stubborn to stop and make a fire. He gets his feet and hands wet but trudges on. This causes his fingers to go numb and he can’t light a fire. He down to take a nap, but ends up dying.
5.) The setting in the cold forest affects the story because it causes Conroy to die. The setting plays the role of a character. The theme is “do not push your limits”.
6.)The cabin that Conroy imagines before he dies is symbolic to heaven.
The Friday Everything Changed
1.) The boys are are so upset that the girls are carrying the water bucket because they afraid that their privilege of doing something real will be taken away. The bucket is a symbol.
2.) The boys exclude the girls from playing softball and bully them so that they give up trying to carry the bucket. Alma’s cousin also tries to convince her to stop wanting a change. This causes the girls to come together and unite against them.
3.)The narrator is a student who is a girls. She thought she was young, pretty and tough with the boys. She also thinks that Ms. Ralston is doesn’t notice the conflict going on because she is an adult. The point of view is Limited Omniscient.
4.) The story takes place in a one room school in a rural part of Ontario, in the 1940s. We know this because the narrator says that the big kids and little kids are all in the same class. The setting intensifies the conflict because it is in a place where gender equality does not exist. The conflict is person vs. society because it is Alma fighting against the way everyone views girls.
5.) Alma is the protaganist because she is the one who seeks change and gets to carry the water bucket.
6.) Ms. Raltson showed the boys that the girls are just as good as boys by hitting the home run. She assigned two girls to carry the water bucket the following week, which was very important for the girls. The theme of the story is to never be afraid to fight for what you believe in.
