The Boys of Red and Blue

I saw this article in the tolerance section for “This I Believe” essays, and at first I thought the article was going to be about past lovers but it was about a different kind of love. I enjoyed this article because the language and vocabulary is not so sophisticated like most essays. The way Eliva Bautista writes feels relaxed, as though she is talking to a friend. She calls the gangs red and blue. Although her brother was a blue gang member and was killed by a red gang member, she emphasizes that the boys in the cemetery are not good or evil, and neither is putting flowers on their graves. The article illustrates that nobody deserves to be forgotten, no matter the life they lived. It exemplifies that there was no point in living a life if nobody is there to remember it after you are gone.
