The article above interested me because it proves a lot of sex offenders do not get as much time in jail as they deserve. The victims of sexual assault often feel horrible and feel as if the assault was their fault. Sexual assault can drive people to commit suicide and it overall can ruin their life. The judge had the chance to give John Dionne an indeterminate sentence but they had chosen not to. In the show, “13 Reasons Why,” we see a character named Hannah Baker get raped in a hot tub. This made her feel disgusting about herself and she expressed how depressed this event made her feel. When in front of the judge, the judge had said the boy who committed the rape had a bright future ahead of him and that she did not want to jeopardize that. The boy only got three months of probation. This example demonstrates how sexual assault/rape is not taken as seriously as it should be. I enjoyed the authors writing because it was very insightful and told the story how it was.
