The Naked Face – Written by Malcolm Gladwell
Malcolm Gladwell, writer for the New Yorker, wrote an article about an interesting topic: determining whether or not a person is lying based off their facial expressions. Gladwell discusses how there have been recorded occurrences where police officers were able to determine lies behind criminals based on their facial expressions. This is a topic that I have actually heard of before I think reading people using this skill this would be a very cool and useful skill to learn. One thing I appreciated about this article was the structure at which it was written. Gladwell wrote the article like a narrative; a progressing story. It was an interesting direction to go and I really felt it enhanced and really enticed me to choose this piece of writing. The reason why I find so much fascination from this topic is because it reminds me a lot of detective television shows I used to watch. Of course, the officers in these shows had an impossible way of identifying certain aspects of a potential criminal based of his expressions however based off this discovery maybe many of these techniques in these shows are not so improbable.
