English Literature Group Individual Project.

In English, we just finished out Literature Circle (LIT) novels and sections. We were also instructed to do an individual project and I chose to to a News Article on an event of the book out of my possible choices. I also included an editorial on the event and included a recent sports article as extra for my project. Enjoy!

Subway Assault Ends In Death

On Thursday afternoon, a subway chase took place. Witnesses say that they saw a young man, early twenties, being chased by a large white, early to late twenties, male with a knife. The chase ended up at the Wilson Subway Station were police say it ended badly. The attacker, named Scott Weber, was fighting with the victim, Duncan Atherton and as described by Mr. Atherton “he slipped and fell into the tracks.” I’m afraid Mr. Weber’s luck would run out as an incoming train couldn’t stop in time and ran him over. As for Mr. Atherton, he is currently in Toronto General Hospital recovering from the injuries he sustained from the attack. Police say it was a random vicious attack and Mr. Weber has been arrested previously for domestic violence. More information will come out soon however we speculate the case will soon be closed.

Crosby’s Penguins win in overtime to take 2-0 series lead over Sharks

The fans of San Jose cannot look onto social media after a second straight loss to the Eastern Conference Champions, the Pittsburgh Penguins. In game 1, the high flying, or better yet, fast skating Penguins jumped right on their opponents taking advantage of the Shark’s unpreparedness. The game would ultimately result in a 3-2 Pittsburgh win over San Jose. For game 2, it was a must win for the Sharks. Pittsburgh again would take advantage of the slow start from San Jose and would lead the game 1-0 after two periods. Things began to look good for the Sharks as they tied the game 1-1 with 4 minutes left to go in the game. It eventually would lead to overtime and to the Sharks demise. Two and a half minutes into overtime, Penguins captain Sidney Crosby won an offensive faceoff to defensemen Kris Letang who would ultimately set up rookie Conner Sheary for the Overtime winner. The sharks for two straight games did not have an answer for the speedy Penguins. The series is definitely not over however it is looking more towards the Penguins favor.

Attempted Mugging gone badly. What was it really?

My Opinion

As you may know already, on Thursday afternoon, an attempted mugging turned into a horrifying conclusion as Scott Weber fell into the tracks of an upcoming train in Wilson station. Police say, Duncan Atherton was enjoying his afternoon until Mr. Weber appeared and attempted to mug the young man. So far the police have been continuing looking for extra information for the event but my sources say that it is close to a closed case. Many think it is just a mugging gone wrong and it may very well be but I believe there are still things that have to be looked at and addressed.

Weber has had some legal issues in the past. A few years before, Weber was arrested for domestic violence when he beat up a prostitute. Studies show that as high as 68% of people who commit crimes and are released will commit the same crime for a second time. Now I understand that it may not be for sure that he committed another crime but we can’t just let this go. Apparently, Weber was assumed to have attempted a mugging so as the studies say, there is a VERY good chance that something else might have going on that in not on the radar.

Next, the victim, Mr. Atherton has supposedly been injured from the event possibly been hit in some way to the head. Medical experts say he experienced head trauma and is diagnosed with a concussion. When reporters arrived to question him about the event and what happened, his reply was, “It was all so fast, I barely remembered anything. My head hurts a lot as well so I’m not entirely sure what happened.” Now this is not me bashing on the young man for lying as it is completely understandable what he is going through and the injuries he has faced. However, doesn’t it feel kind of suspicious that a mugging resulted in a chase kilometers away the crime originally occurred? If the victim runs away for long enough, don’t you think the attacker would just give up? Now it may very well be a coincidence but there is no problem looking into the investigation more in depth and finding out more upon Mr. Weber. I believe there might be more information behind the scenes that we don’t know about and I believe that this should very well continue to be a live case.

To conclude, this resent attempting mugging gone bad may have been more than we realized. The facts show that there is still something that we don’t know about and it is our right to find out. As for Mr. Atherton, I wish him a quick recovery and hopefully he does not have to endure another tramatic event again.
