Safety Story
I woke up like another day and went to the lab to start work but when I walked into the lab, I saw my lab assistant juggling test tubes! A second later I said: Fred stop now before you break something! He looked at me and said: wait so this isn’t what their used for? After he said that I was shocked with disappointment. Right then and there I realized I needed to give him a lesson. I started talking about how test tubes were used to mix heat and store substances then I talked all about how he can’t always be holding those test tubes and how they don’t exactly stand up straight for you, so I brought out the test tube rack and taught him when he’s done holding the test tube to put it on the test tube rack. Then just as I thought his teaching was done, he replied with: okay thanks, but can I take the day off my hands are hurt from holding the hot test tubes. Annoyingly I gave him another lesson involving lots of yelling when something stupid was said. This lesson started of great with me saying stuff like the test tube holder is what you use when operating with hot test tubes and how the funnel is not used as a hat but used for pouring liquids into small openings when I noticed a bunch of dirty test tubes in the trash. Right there I looked up at Fred and said why are these in the trash? Fred replied with: well those are the old dirty test tubes we don’t want those any more. I grabbed them from the trash put them in the sink and showed him how to clean the test tubes using the test tube cleaner. Suddenly the counted burst into a flame, Fred must have left some chemicals on them and as the mixed they became unstable and burst into a flame. A second later Fred jumps on the counter and starts stomping on the flame now as big as 3 meters long and 5 meters wide! I start yelling at him to stop before he kills himself and get down from there. In an instant he jumps off the counter and starts rolling on the floor to put out his coat. We leave the building and call 911 to tell them about our fire. While watching our science lab be sprayed by 4 long fire hoses Fred starts to talk about how he saved the animals from the fire. I asked him how, knowing that we never when to save the animals when leaving the building in flames. He said I did it days ago because he couldn’t bear the thought of the animals being hurt. Fred and I then got into a big argument whether testing on animals is justified or not. In the end we couldn’t find an answer and when home. At home I go to sit down on the sofa to watch some tv when I see Fred outside with a bottle of hairspray and a bottle of bleach. My first reaction to that is what is going on here?!?! Fred explains that he noticed some weird shocking symbols on the hairspray and the bleach and wondered if he was at risk. I explained that the symbols were warning symbols and that he should be careful in those areas for the bleach I told him the skull meant that it was a warning for poison so he should wash his hands after using it and to keep it away from his face. For the hairspray I noticed he was worried about the fire symbol and I explained that the bottle warns the user that the stuff in the hairspray was very flammable and he should keep it away from flames. Knowing that he felt more relaxed and finally went home. That was one of my weirdest days.
Safety map of the class:
You did a good job on your safety story. You communicated your understanding of safety issues in the Science class and included a great map of the safety features of the classroom. Good work adding detail to your story.
