In the People React to Being Called Beautiful video, a high school student named Shea goes around her campus and asks fellow students and teachers (some of which she didn’t know), to be in a video for one of her classes. She recorded them as she told them her topic for this project: “I’m taking pictures of things I find beautiful.” The camera caught the reactions of the unprepared people receiving such simple words with such powerful meaning. Some blushed, while others thanked her humbly, trying to hide their true gratitude. One student even responded negatively, thinking that she was being mocked. You could tell that Shea’s simple eight words impacted these people in such immense ways. We can infer from their reactions that their day was made better by her, which could lead on to so many more positive things in not only theirs, but others lives. Her statement could have easily boosted some of these students’ self-esteem and confidence, also giving them inspiration to want to spread more small acts of kindness in their lives. It is not that often that human’s get the chance to feel special, beautiful or even just simply positively recognized for being themselves. When humans do, we react as if we don’t believe them. This video shows how humans do not think that they are beautiful and are distrustful or unaccepting when others do.
