Elemental Infofluency

Part One

Part Two:

Ask – The questions I asked were:

  1. What does tungsten look like?
  2. What state is tungsten in at room temperature?
  3. What are some interesting features of tungsten?
  4. How dangerous is tungsten?
  5. Where is tungsten found?
  6. How strong is tungsten

Acquire – I gathered my information using:

  • Google
  • Youtube
  • Gale Power Search
  • Pexels
  • Creative Commons
  • EasyBib for citation

Analyze – How I kept track of my information and sources

When making this project, I created a document to take notes and list all my sources for citations. Once I had the information that I needed, I sifted through all of my notes and picked the ones most meaningful and useful to put into my presentation. When writing out my Sway, I made sure to write it in my own words as well. Most of my images came from share-friendly sites like Pexels and Creative Commons. I used a citation machine to cite my sources.

Assess – the Infofluency process and my project

In terms of my Sway, I felt that some areas could have been a little more detailed. There was some information there, but more could have been added and I could have gone into deeper detail. In addition to this, some of the areas that did have a fair amount of information could have been more organized, and even a little more concise. The levels of information was good, but the way it was written and placed could have been a little more strategically organized and could have had more flow to it. Lastly, when describing the uses of tungsten, there could have been more specifics included. I listed enough uses for tungsten, but what I did not include was why tungsten is used for these things or even how they are produced with tungsten. Including those details in that section more impressive.

The Information Fluency process went very well for me. I made sure that I followed through with the steps of the process, and it went smoothly. Doing this process helped me learn about different sources of information that I’ve never used before and helped me to become more familiar with how to use them as well. Using multiple sources of information, not just Google, provided me with a very good amount of information for my project, and this gave me a good understanding of tungsten. I am glad that I have found some new sources ways to gather information that I can possibly utilize for any future research.

Excellent information fluency post. I really like how you have found some great sub-questions to lead you to get a well-rounded perspective on tungsten. You have done a great job sharing the digital tools you used and citing your sources. Good debrief on your product and process as well. I loved how you included the DemolitionRanch tests; it makes your post even more interesting.
