Week 3 – Pre Calculus 11

This week in class we learnt about absolute values, the definition of an absolute value is the principal square root of a square of a number. Another way to simply describe an absolute value is the distance a number is from 0 on the number line.  For example |5| = 5 because it is 5 numbers away from 0, even with negative numbers |-10| = 10 because -10 is still 10 numbers away from 0.

Here is an example for finding an absolute value:

|6+ (-10)|-|5-7|

|-4|-|-2|

|-4 + 2|

= 2
