This was the second active health assignment that we did this unit on the benefits and risks of communication technology. In this assignment, we stated our opinions and thoughts on these areas and we did a bit of research as to how to seek help online if needed.

Investigating Batteries – Sway
Today we did an exploration on batteries that we use in our everyday life. We each made three questions, then answered three of our peers questions, and then came up with a final question about all three of our answers. This was a fun and interesting way to explore batteries as we know them!
Information Fluency
Today we went through some stations in the library about how to decipher between true and/or false information. A few of the strategies I used were:
- First off, I would look at the URL and the domain – .com means anyone can make it whereas .org is an organization, .edu is from an education, and .gov is from the government.
- I scanned the site for credible information – I clicked on all the hyperlinks and verified the information with it and used my previous knowledge to help.
- I checked the site for contact information or the “about us” section – if there is no information to contact the author it shows that they aren’t credible.
We also went onto the library site and read some online magazines. Here is one that I read and the instructions for how to get on:

Something I learned today was that at Riverside, we have access to an entire library full of online magazines and articles free of charge for us to use. With tons of bountiful information, these sources are credible and very easy to use.
I hope that we will be able to do more activities like this in the future! I had a lot of fun and learned a lot.

Static Race
In our science lesson today, we used fur to charge the lucite sticks which then moved our ruler by using static electricity. In this challenge, we raced our classmates to see who had the best methods and materials for the key to success. The winning team got their ruler to spin around ten times without being touched at all, only using the charged lucite sticks (static electricity). We took snapshots and video footage of our race from the beginning to the end. It was a fun way to learn about and experiment with the use of static electricity!
