From the moment this assignment was initially explained, I thought it was a really cool opportunity in learning about the First Nations, and how they used their resources to their advantage. For example, our group chose the Cheam band, and we discovered that the area in which the Cheam lived (upper Fraser Valley) was naturally enriched with very fertile soil and it helped them harvest many vegetables and berries. In this discovery, our group mutually decided that we should incorporate berries into our dish to represent their band as best as possible. I personally enjoyed this assignment because it widened my overall knowledge of the First Nations who live in British Columbia and since we don’t often hear a lot about the individual bands spread across the province, it’s refreshing to do an assignment like such. My group worked very well; when prepping the dough for the bannock, everyone participated with a great attitude and the individual pieces of dough came out better than I had thought. My group really came together on this assignment and it felt great to be a part of something that could potentially bring attention to more indigenous groups. Due to my absence, I cannot say whether the dish came out great or not, but I have high confidence that it came out very well because I know my group did a great job either way!
