article’s purpose: let people aware of the results of sending their products back

The author (Emily Chung) is a Science and Technology Writer. She has previously worked as a digital journalist for CBC Ottawa and as an occasional producer at CBC’s Quirks & Quarks. She has a PhD in chemistry. I found her expertise at the end of the article.

-I don’t think there is any bias and no obvious sponsors since there are no ads on the page. And I searched the Wikipedia, it said: “CBC’s federal funding is supplemented by revenue from commercial advertising on its television broadcasts. The radio service employed commercials from its inception to 1974, but since its primary radio networks have been commercial-free. In 2013, CBC’s secondary radio networks, CBC Music and Ici Musique, introduced limited advertising of up to four minutes an hour, but this was discontinued in 2016.” I think it is peer reviewed because she is from CBC (a big Corporation). Her diction was methodical and fair. Affiliations: The author covers science and technology for CBC News– The author is an insider.

ethic questions

  1. How do you personally define an ethic of care?

–Care is related to emotional concern, and your actions of care should be included. If one only says that Oh I care about this but has nothing to do with their deed, I don’t think it’s a real care.

  1. What would be needed to create an ethic of care?

-virtue ethics: ex. kindness, and love

  1. What would we have to believe about the environment to care for it? How should we see it?

-I believe we should consider and concern about our environment on a daily basis otherwise we should bear the devastating consequences that nature gave back to us.

  1. How would we act if we cared about the environment? – give scenarios

-scenario example: (garbage sorting) After I finish eating in the cafeteria, I would put my plastic fork and remnant food (if I have ) into the right garbage can.

  1. What would be different about the world if everyone adopted this ethic of care towards the environment? Benefits and drawbacks?

-benefits: environment would be in a virtuous circle if everyone takes care of it

-It is not so much drawbacks as a contribution from each person to create a better future for the earth. Just everyone should put some time and efforts to achieve that.

  1. Should we adopt an ethic of care towards the environment?

         -Yes, we should.

In downtown Port Coquitlam

In downtown Port Coquitlam:

What I see today is different from what I saw yesterday. Standing on the Shaughnessy street, I feel busy and noisy, with people and cars coming and going. The place I choose to stay is under the eaves of a laundry. Looking in from the outside, I can see people inside busy ironing clothes. Across the street, there’s Subway and a sushi restaurant. A few steps ahead, there is a BMO bank and a bakery. I feel like downtown Port Coquitlam can meet the needs of different people. Moreover, yesterday it is easier for me to put my phone away since I like quite place and I think it’s enjoyable. However, downtown Poco is hectic and noisy. It makes me feel that I want to go back to the classroom quickly.

Physical Geography Paragraph

paragraph: Individual tree, brown trunk, bare of leaves because it is winter, looks lonely. Their falling leaves go into the ground and become fertilizer, giving their last life to make the next year’s trees more full-bodied. Also, there are some dead tree trunks by looking at the ground. Now, the winter fairy tale is bleak. At the same time, those tres are very high, each reaching to the sky, and the thin branches at the very top crossed each other. Although it is winter now, everything seems in silence. However, in the spring, everything comes back to life. The four seasons and all things come and go. As a human being, death is the body, but eternal is the soul. I also feel we are quite fortunate to have fresh air and a clean environment. It makes me think there is much stuff going on in the world, especially right now, such as fires in Australia, a 40-year outbreak of the deadly type b flu in the United States, a new coronavirus outbreak spreading in Wuhan, China, and more. People in China cannot even go outside of the home because of the coronavirus virus. All in all, the most important thing is to cherish the moment you have right now.
