TOKTW 2016

Yesterday I went BC Children’s Hospital to watch what a Critical Care Paramedic does at work for TOKTW day. Mike works as a Critical Care Paramedic on the Infant Transport Team. He transports babies and children that are seriously sick or injured all around BC, in either an ambulance, helicopter, plane, or turbo prop.

We started off the day at Children’s Hospital where I got a tour of his station, and then we got a tour of everything in and around the ambulance. Then we went inside the equipment room, where I saw the incubators, needles, oxygen tanks, monitors, syringes, medications and a ton more. After that we drove to the helicopter landing, where I saw inside a paramedics helicopter. We saw them load up the helicopter to leave for Victoria and watched them take off.

Touring his work was really cool, and after seeing everything he does at work, I have much more respect for the work he and all paramedics do. They save so many people’s lives every day, and they always have to put everyone before themselves. There’s so much information they have to know and so many things they have to do, I think it’s a job that should be more appreciated.

I can also better appreciate the work everybody does, because now I can see all the hard work they do every day.

I’d like to say thank you to Mike for taking me to his work and showing me what he does at work every day!!
