The app I reviewed is called “Elements: The Periodic Table”. It’s a free app that shows the periodic table, and then if you click on an element it’ll give you a ton of information about the element. Some of this information includes atomic weight & mass, a Bohr diagram of the element, the history, a photo of the element and a bunch more.
Here are my questions I asked to help me understand the app:
- What does this app teach?
- Is this app easy to use?
- Will this app actually help me learn?
- Does this app teach me new information?
- Is it fun & interesting?
- Is all the information on the app correct?
- Does it require internet to use?
- Is this app available for all devices?
What does this app teach?
This app shows you the periodic table, and when you click on an element it gives you information about that element.
Is this app easy to use?
I think that this app is super easy to use, because it’s a very simple app. The only thing you could get confused on is if you don’t know that clicking on an element shows you information about it, which I think it pretty easy to figure out.
Will this app actually help me learn?
This app would defiantly help in a classroom with the chemistry unit if you needed to answer a question like “What’s the atomic weight of sodium?” or “Is Beryllium toxic?” but it doesn’t actually teach you chemistry, since it’s an app that’s meant to just be looked at to get the information you need.
Does this app teach me new information?
The app has information past what we learned in chemistry this year, but since the app doesn’t tell you what the information means, to me the extra information just looks confusing. So since the app does have new information but doesn’t show what it means I would say that it doesn’t teach me new information.
Is it fun & interesting?
The app isn’t very fun or interesting- it does have bright colours and nice images of the elements to look at, but nothing super fun. Considering what the app is supposed to be used for though, I don’t know how you could make it more interesting than it is.
Is all the information on the app correct?
There’s a lot of information in this app so it’s hard to check if it’s all right, but I noticed that on some of the newer elements they have atomic masses different than what other periodic tables say.
Does it require internet to use?
The app doesn’t need internet for the most of it; the only thing it needs internet for is if you clicked one of the links to the websites it got the information from.
Is this app available for all devices?
I downloaded this app from the Windows store, but I checked the Apple and Google Play stores to see if it had this app and neither had the exact same app, but Apple did have an app similar.
Things I like about this app:
Some of the things I like about this app is the layout, the information it gives (like the atom diagrams, history & a photo), and I like how it shows the websites where it got all the information from.
Things about the app that I think should be improved:
I like a lot of the app, but I do think they should update the information and change the parts that are incorrect, and one big thing I think they should defiantly add is the valence, especially if the element is multivalent.
Overall, I do like this app and I would recommend it to look at for chemistry class. My rate of it would be 8.5/10.
