Mt. Stromboli – Volcano

This picture is of Mt. Stromboli erupting in Italy. It is on Stromboli island and is 924 meters tall. It has been in nearly continuous eruption for almost 2000 years, and the most recent eruption was in 2009.

The formation of this volcano is most likely caused from the African and Eurasian plates converging. At the subduction zone, where one of the plates goes under the other, the plate that sinks will heat up to magma. This magma will rise through cracks and eventually, with enough pressure, it breaks through the crust and causes an eruption. This volcano is an example of a composite volcano.
