As an English student, I would describe myself as having a good work ethic, and I enjoy analyzing texts to learn more about different perspectives and ways of seeing the world. I can generate new ideas through observing other works and going into depth to explore their meanings. Doing novel studies is something that I have appreciated most in the past. A weakness that I have as an English student is in communicating or sharing my ideas in big groups, because although I can work well with others and share my opinions in small groups, I am less able to express myself the way I would like to in a public speaking setting. I think that my strengths as an English student are mostly in the critical thinking competency because I can pull insights from writing, and exploring themes and messages is something that I’m confident in. The other area that I believe I’m strongest in is the creative thinking competency because I enjoy coming up with new ideas and expanding on them in writing. I can think of different ways to approach and analyze a subject, as well as ways to present my findings in an effective and interesting manner. The thing that I would like to improve upon most as an English student is communication because I often have trouble properly explaining my ideas when communicating them verbally. I would also like to improve on my grammar and the structure of my writing, as well as developing better planning habits for writing essays.
