DNA Lab

The difference between chromosomes, DNA, and genes is that chromosomes contain the DNA so they carry them, whereas DNA actually carries the genetic code. Genes are smaller forms of DNA but they get carried down generations not just in one person.

In the picture below the DNA structure is represented by black and red licorice and colourful marshmallow. The black and red licorice represent the back bone which is sugar-phosphate.
The marshmallows represent the bases that connect the backbones together yellow marshmallows represent adenine, the orange marshmallows represent thymine, the green represents guanine, and the pink represent cytosine.

This activity helped learn about DNA because I can now match to a visual and now have something to remember all the parts. Like licorice has sugar, sugar-phosphate makes the backbone.
