Part one

Dear Justin Trudeau,

My name is Evan Vink. I am a grade 9 student from Riverside secondary school, Port Coquitlam, British Colombia. I am writing you this letter because I wanted to inform you about magma energy. Magma energy is powered by the magma in a volcano and it is a very clean way of obtaining energy. Magma energy is renewable and it can have big potential for generating a big source of power. It is also great for heating. Magma energy can also be used to power electric cars. Magma energy can be a worthy investment.

Pros:
Geothermal plants are renewable and green which means that it doesn’t run on fossil fuels like coal and natural gases, magma power plants can make a lot of power, more than regular geothermal plants, since magma power plants can make a lot of power it can lower the heating costs in our homes and workplaces. Magma energy can be good for the rise of electric-powered cars.

Cons:
Geothermal plants cost a lot to make and it can be a very big upfront cost. Geothermal plants could cause an earthquake but it’s unlikely to happen. Geothermal plants can be difficult to find a place to build them because they need to be close to the volcano which can oppose another problem which is that there may be a chance that the volcano erupts and it can destroy everything near it. A problem with geothermal plants is that it increases the heat of the ground which contributes to climate change

Part 2
1) What questions did you need to ask in order to research your topic?
is magma energy good for the environment?
pros and cons of magma energy
pros and cons of geothermal energy
how close does a geothermal power plant need to be to a source?
can magma energy produce a lot of power?
how do magma plants work?

2) What new or familiar digital tools did you try to use as you worked through this project?

I use google as my current search engine, I use youtube for watching videos, I use Pexels for my school projects, for example, my digital footprint project and I’ve used Grammarly to fix my spelling and grammatical errors that I may have missed.

3) What was the process you used to investigate the topic?
first, I thought of my topic then went to go research and read a bunch of websites about my topic then write them down on word pad then I copied and pasted the websites at the bottom to give them credit

4) How did you verify and cite the information you found?
first, I looked at the date to see if the information was still relevant or if it was published in the early 2000s, then I copied and pasted all of the websites at the bottom of the page and I used my own words so that I wouldn’t be plagiarizing

5) How did the process of completing this challenge go? What could you have done better?

I feel like this was pretty challenging and that I could have handed this in on time and use my time better
