The downfall of literature

Having decent English skills are very important because they help with a key part in everyone’s future: careers. Careers need good communication to fully understand everything that comes with a job. Communication is also important because it is key when working with other people. Many people don’t think having such amazing English skills is important socially. In the 2018 article, Devaluing a Humanities Eduction Ultimately Devalues Humanity Itself, writer Mandy Pipher, argues that many people don’t think having such amazing English skills is important socially. “I’d internalized the widespread attitude that a humanities degree is ultimately a frivolous and fruitless pursuit, socially speaking; that it will not bring any material success or measurable social status; that it is not at all “practical.” People either are taught to think this way or somehow develop it on their own. Another thing the 2018 article by Mandy Pipher that helps understand the issues of this when it says “Many of us seem to hold — consciously or not — an underlying belief that the skills gained through higher education in English are largely irrelevant to the advancement or maintenance of our society.” Some people are more aware about what they think about this specific subject while others never really think about it.
