The Europeans have came over to the First Nations land and have made contact and settled in. Although Europe’s contact and settlement positively impacted the First Nations in some ways, there were too many negatives therefore the Europeans contact and settlement negatively impacted the First Nations.
Europe has made some positive impacts on the First Nations. They provided them with guns so they can have an advantage in a fight over there opponent and can use it for easier hunting. They also attempted to civilize the First Nations and convert them to Catholics. This is showing them a new religion and new ways to see in life. The First Nations are also lucky to have the Europeans supplying them with goods made out of iron, such as tools and cooking utensils. That was giving them ways to do things they already had to do faster, such as cooking. The Europeans and First Nations also created an alliance for wars to be able to out number there opposition for the upper hand. There had been a disease going around called scurvy so they had created a medicine for it that was able to help it so less people would die from the disease. Both the Europeans and First Nations created a group called the Metis. It started up a new culture and made the two get along with each other. Europe should be recognized for the positive impacts that they made with the First Nations.
Europe’s contact and settlement has also negatively impacted the First Nations. They had supplied the First Nations with both guns and alcohol which can be a good thing. The only problem is that not everyone had got guns so it was unfair. They would also be wasting valuables that they could’ve traded for something productive, but instead they got it for alcohol. Alcohol would just get them drunk and not be able to work. While the European’s were trying to “civilize” the First Nations and make them Catholics, they were not being reasonable. They were basically forcing them into believing what they believed in and would not give them a choice even if what they’re forcing them into is out of there comfort zone. They also supplied the First Nations with the tools and cooking utensils which is a good thing. The only bad part about it is that they were having to trade for the items, so they were not free. The solution they had when they could not agree over something was to have a war between each other so people were being killed when they were supposed to be fighting wars with each other, not against each other. There were also plenty of people that were getting a disease called scurvy from being on the boats and coming over which many people had died from. Also the French had just came in and took over the land without even paying the First Nations. The Europeans settlement was very negative and could’ve been a lot better.
To sum it all up there would be too many negatives between the First Nations and Europeans to say that there settlement positively impacted the First Nations. Although Europe’s contact and settlement positively impacted the First Nations in some ways, there were too many negatives therefore the Europeans contact and settlement negatively impacted the First Nations. If only the Europeans could have been a little bit smarter on there decisions to make it a successful impact.
