High school is a great time to think about our futur job or career. That is why this project is a great way for me to narrow down my different job possibilities. One of the jobs I am considering to pursue is engineering. I have decided to interview Soren Izadi who is a mechanical engineer who has been working for 23 years. He is currently working at BC hydro.
Here is the link to the BC hydro website : https://www.bchydro.com/index.html
I chose to interview Soren because of the fact that he is an engineer, which is one of the jobs that I am considering to do. Here is how our interview went:
Why are you passionate about your job?
I am passionate for my engineering job because I get to create new things and getting continuous learning.
What are obstacles have you faced to get you where you are today?
Getting to where I am now was not too hard, but keeping the job and staying motivated is a harder task. For example, you have to communicate with a lot of people and if you don’t communicate well everything will fall apart.
What advice would you pass on to someone interested in what you are doing?
It is good to have a base of mathematics and physics and to have passion in being an engineer. It is also important to be willing to learn continuously, being good in teamwork, and having technical knowledge.
Would you be open to further contact from Riverside students and if so, how can someone contact you?
I am currently not open for further contact.
What are some steps I should take to prepare myself for a engineering job?
You have to do a good job in high school, attend a good university and work on problem skills. For example, when having a big problem you need to break it down into small manageable pieces to make it easier to find a solution.
What are the pros and cons of your job?
The pros are that you always have a chance to learn something new and to meet new people. This job is also an excellent use of a variety of skills. The cons are that it is not the best payed job compared to similar professions and that it sometimes gets repetitive.
