There are three different outcomes that you can have for a system. The lines intersect at one point, the lines are parallel or the lines are coincident. If the lines intersect at one point the lines must have different slopes. If the lines are parallel they will share the same slope but have a different Y-intercept. If the lines are coincident both the slope and intercept are the same they also have an infinite number of points.
