On September 24th,2019 we had a skype chat with Tim and his daughter at Nicola lodge, Tim has Huntington’s disease which is a brain disorder that is caused by a single defective gene on chromosome 4. on the skype chat we talked about Tim’s health and if there was anything we could do to help him to make his life easier, Tim talked about how hard it is to use a remote, I felt really bad and I wanted to help him to make his life a little easier. What I found interesting was that Tim was really good at drawing but sadly he cant draw as good as he used to.
me and my group started brainstorming about the things that was challenging in his daily life, the main once were a remote controller, a stand for the couch, something that could make it easier for him to draw and a spoon holder and a cup holder it would be great if I could do all of them for Tim but unfortunately that would take a lot of time so we decided to just make a remote controller so that he doesn’t struggle while watching TV.
I researched this idea and its actually a thing and they sell it on amazon, its great that people thought of this and made it a thing to help seniors and I think people should keep making stuff that’s helpful for seniors to make there life easier, some of the skills that you need to build a remote controller are establishing a work place, communication and self control. materials that you need are Scissors, Soldering Iron, Screwdriver, Hot Glue Gun, Felt, Fabric Glue, Printer Paper, Cardboard, Small Gauge Wire, White Fabric. The steps that you need to take are Disassembly, layout, textile switch assembly, solder, final assembly.
I think the solution we provide was good, the process was a little slow because coming up with the solution was challenging but after discussing with my group we thought a remote controller was the proper solution. The quality of my post wasn’t bad I would like to improve some of the skills I have and I’m working on it but over all it was good.
