Household Electricity

  1. Determine how-powerful-am-i in this activity.
  2. In groups of 1 or 2, use a site such as fotor.com to create a Household Electricity Collage with labelling.

    Research the information required and add the needed text to each picture.

    a.     Electrical outlet – label each slot on the outlet with neutral, hot and ground including the voltage of each

    b.     Read the household meter and record in kW.h

    c.      Title the circuit breaker. Show which direction a switch would flip (open) if the circuit was overloaded.

    d.     Show the electrical wires entering the home

    e.     Title the device requiring electricity. Find an image of its electrical circuit and include this in your

    collage.

    f.    Save image and add to your edublog. How to below.

2.     “Citizens” ask questions and make comments

For absent students, create your strategy in writing and email to Ms Brandsma.

Homework: Take 5 pictures: an electrical outlet, household meter (outside), circuit breaker, where electrical wires entering your home (if visible), something requiring electricity that isn’t light.

  2. Learn from the energy-conservation powerpoint
  3. Conduct your own research (5 min.) – How could people be encouraged to use less electricity? Be prepared to share to a small group.
  4. In groups of 4, develop a strategy to reduce BC’s energy waste (political, educational, social, etc).  You will present as a group in a “Town Hall” meeting next class. The citizens will vote on which strategy to implement. Answers to Energy Waste Questions should be included in your presentation as this is how I will be marking you.
