Chemistry Unit Test coming up on Friday, March 3rd. What you need to be able to do:

  • Be able to describe and draw the parts of an atoms
  • Calculate the number of protons, electrons and neutrons in a neutral atom AND in a charged ion
  • Draw Bohr models for neutral atoms or ions
  • Use the periodic table to find patterns (i.e. atomic number, atomic mass, ion charge, etc.)
  • Describe key features of the major periodic table groups (i.e. alkali metals, halogens, etc.)
  • Describe how ions combine together to form ionic compounds based on outer shell (valence) electrons. For example, why are chlorine and sodium attracted together and how would you draw sodium chloride in Bohr model format?
  • Describe how ions combine together to form covalent compounds based on outer shell (valence) electrons. For example, why are oxygen and hydrogen attracted together and how would you draw dihydrogen monoxide in Bohr model format?
  • Describe chemical names (i.e. sodium chloride/dihydrogen monoxide) and chemical formulas (i.e. NaCl/H2O) of ionic and covalent compounds
