WeChat was started inOctober 2010. In a Tencent office in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou, away from the company’s Shenzhen HQ, a small team started working on a mobile chat app.It has been nine years since the beginning of WeChat. In these nine years, WeChat has undergone many changes and progress.The initial purpose of social software is of course the convenience of communication, so as to attract users to use, to achieve sales of other products. The form of this app is almost the same as Facebook.

The free business model of the Internet is essentially to acquire a huge user base for free, and then create a new value chain based on this. WeChat does not charge SMS fees. If it promotes games or recommends products in a large user base, it can easily earn more money than China Mobile’s annual SMS fee.

WeChat began as a project at Tencent Guangzhou Research and Project center in October 2010. The original version of the app was created by Zhang Xiaolong and named “Weixin” by Ma Huateng, CEO of Tencent and launched in 2011. Most of the current WeChat users are young people, and they prefer this advanced and fashionable way to communicate with friends. In most Asian countries, we call this app weixin, and in these countries in North America, it is commonly called WeChat.

WeChat also could be a book app, people could book the tickets for the movies, hotels, or the taxi. it also has its own payment called “WeChat pay”.  It is very close to “apple pay” or “google pay”, you can use it as your online wallet (Ma 2015).
